To celebrate Singapore’s 60th year of independence, the government has launched the SG60 Voucher Scheme, a nationwide initiative aimed at easing daily expenses while giving a boost to local businesses. The programme, which began in July 2025, will benefit nearly four million citizens across two phases.
Who Gets the Vouchers?
The rollout has been structured carefully to ensure fairness and smooth distribution:
- Seniors (60 and above): Eligible for S$800 vouchers, claims opened on 1 July 2025.
- Adults (21–59 years old): Eligible for S$600 vouchers, claims start on 22 July 2025.
All recipients must be Singapore citizens with an active Singpass account and must be physically residing in Singapore when making their claim.
How the Vouchers Work
The SG60 vouchers are fully digital and issued via the RedeemSG platform. Once a claim is made, citizens receive an SMS from Gov.sg with a secure redemption link. The vouchers are displayed as QR codes, which can be used at thousands of participating outlets.
Each eligible adult receives:
- S$300 for supermarkets (NTUC FairPrice, Sheng Siong, Cold Storage, Giant, etc.)
- S$300 for heartland shops and hawker centres
Outlets taking part in the scheme display the official SG60 decal, making it easy for shoppers and diners to identify where their vouchers are accepted.
The vouchers are valid until 31 December 2026, giving citizens 18 months to make use of them.
What Can You Buy?
The government has outlined clear rules to ensure the vouchers support essential spending:
Allowed: groceries (rice, vegetables, eggs, milk, cooking oil), meals from hawker stalls and food courts, personal care and household cleaning supplies.
Not Allowed: alcohol, tobacco, gambling services, petrol and diesel purchases.
This ensures the scheme directly benefits household needs while supporting small businesses and local food culture.
Support for Those Less Tech-Savvy
To ensure no one is left out, more than 200 help centres have been set up nationwide. Citizens who are less familiar with smartphones can seek in-person assistance from SG Digital Ambassadors, with multilingual support available in English, Mandarin, Malay, and Tamil.
Keeping It Safe and Secure
As with all digital schemes, safeguards are in place to prevent scams and fraud. Official SMS messages will always come from Gov.sg, and redemption links will begin with voucher.redeem.gov.sg. Citizens are reminded not to share their Singpass credentials or voucher QR codes with anyone.
Every voucher is tied to an individual’s NRIC, making it non-transferable and traceable. If a redemption link is lost, it can be regenerated by logging in again.
Why It Matters
The SG60 Voucher Scheme is more than just financial aid it’s part of a wider commemorative package to mark six decades of nationhood. It helps households manage rising costs while strengthening heartland economies and neighbourhood hawker culture.
By giving citizens up to 18 months to redeem the vouchers, the government is providing flexibility for families to use them based on their own budgeting and priorities.
In short, the SG60 vouchers are a celebration of Singapore’s progress, a practical form of support for households, and a timely boost for local businesses.
