The Social Security System (SSS), in collaboration with UnionBank, has introduced an innovative card aimed at simplifying financial transactions for millions of Filipino members. Known as the MySSS Card, this new solution serves as both an official SSS identification card and a UnionBank Visa debit card, giving members direct access to their benefits and digital banking services without the need for a separate account.
What Is the MySSS Card?
The MySSS Card is designed to perform multiple functions in one convenient package. It acts as an official SSS ID, allowing members to access SSS services and complete transactions. At the same time, it functions as a UnionBank Visa debit card, enabling users to withdraw cash, make purchases online or in-store, and manage their funds digitally.
All SSS benefits including pensions, loans, and other payments are automatically credited to the card’s linked UnionBank account. Being a Visa-powered card, the MySSS Card can also be used internationally wherever Visa is accepted, offering global access to funds.
How the MySSS Card Works
When members apply for the MySSS Card, a UnionBank savings account is automatically created and linked to their card. Payments from SSS are directly deposited into this account, which can be accessed through the UnionBank mobile app. The app allows users to monitor balances, track transactions, and perform essential banking functions conveniently from their smartphones.
The card effectively merges three functions in one: it is an official ID, a digital wallet, and a debit card. This integration provides a streamlined way for members to receive benefits and manage finances efficiently.
Who Can Apply
To qualify for a MySSS Card, members must possess a PhilSys ID (Philippine National ID), ensuring secure and personalized access. Once fully rolled out, over 40 million eligible Filipinos are expected to benefit from this program.
How to Apply
Applicants can register through the UnionBank Online App. Requirements include:
- A valid SSS number
- A PhilSys ID
- A mobile number and email address
Upon verification, UnionBank will open a savings account and issue the MySSS Card, which can immediately be used to access SSS benefits and banking services.
Why the MySSS Card Is Different
The MySSS Card stands out because it combines government services with digital banking in a single tool. Members no longer need to queue at SSS offices or maintain separate bank accounts for their benefits. By providing unbanked Filipinos with access to digital payments and online banking, the card also promotes financial inclusion and convenience.
Official Statements
SSS President and CEO Rolando Macasaet emphasized that the MySSS Card will improve the efficiency and security of benefit distribution. UnionBank President and CEO Ana Aboitiz Delgado highlighted that the card empowers more Filipinos to participate safely in the digital economy.
Nationwide Rollout
The nationwide rollout will occur in phases, with updates and announcements available through the UnionBank app. Members are encouraged to monitor the app for the latest information about availability in their area.
The MySSS Card represents a major step forward in streamlining benefits and promoting financial inclusion, making it easier for Filipino members to manage their finances and enjoy secure access to their hard-earned benefits.
